CookThis helps users turn food photos into simple home-cookable recipes. This Privacy Policy explains how CookThis collects, uses, discloses, retains, and protects information when you use our app, website, and related services.
Information We Collect
Depending on the features you use, CookThis may collect:
- Account information such as name, email address, login provider, and user ID.
- Food photos and uploads captured in the camera flow or selected from your gallery.
- Recipe context such as food name, source, notes, selected recipe mode, corrections, and feedback.
- Preferences such as cooking skill, dietary rules, allergies, halal preference, equipment, servings, region, spice level, and measurement system.
- Generated content such as dish analysis, recipes, substitutions, warnings, saved recipes, and recent recipe history.
- Device and usage information such as app version, operating system, crash logs, performance logs, and feature usage.
- Support communications you send to us.
Dietary rules, allergies, religious food preferences, and food photos can reveal personal information. CookThis should collect only what is needed to provide and improve recipe generation.
How We Use Information
We use information to generate recipe suggestions from food photos, identify likely dishes and ingredients, personalize recipes, save recipes and scan history, provide account and support features, improve reliability and safety, debug the service, and comply with legal obligations.
AI Processing
CookThis uses AI systems and service providers to analyze food images and generate recipe suggestions. Food photos, optional context, and relevant preferences may be sent to these providers to create a recipe. AI outputs may be incorrect or incomplete. CookThis does not guarantee exact identification of dishes, ingredients, allergens, calories, or restaurant recipes.
Permissions
CookThis may request camera access to take food photos and photo library access to upload food images. Notifications or location permissions should be requested only if those features are implemented, and location should be limited to region-level recipe localization where possible.
How We Share Information
We may share information with service providers that help operate CookThis, including cloud hosting, database, storage, AI model, routing, analytics, crash reporting, authentication, payment, and support providers. We may also disclose information if required by law or as part of a business transfer.
CookThis should not sell personal information or use user food photos in public marketing without explicit permission.
Data Retention
We keep account data while the account is active, saved recipes until they are deleted, and food photos or scan records only as long as needed for recipe history, debugging, safety, or user-requested retention. Logs should be retained for a limited security and debugging period.
Your Choices
You should be able to delete saved recipes, delete scans or photos where applicable, update dietary and allergy preferences, request account deletion, opt out of marketing, and manage mobile permissions in device settings.
To request deletion, email privacy@cookthis.app from the email connected to your CookThis account.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
CookThis is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
International Users
If you use CookThis outside your country of residence, your information may be processed in countries where privacy laws may differ from those in your region.
Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and provide additional notice where required.
